Fun things to do this February!

Let it snow! Winter in Edmonton is a magical time of year. Sure, it can get pretty chilly, but that’s nothing a few layers of warm clothes can’t fix. There is nothing wrong with hibernating at home, at The Hendrix, and getting cozy on a cold day, but when you're ready for fun, you don’t have to look very far. The Vertica Resident Services blog team wants to share a few fun things to do this February!

Ice Castles

Ice Castles, in Hawrelak Park (9330 Groat Rd NW), is about as close as you can get to a real life winter wonderland. This award-winning winter attraction is created by ice artists hand-placing hundreds of thousands of cultivated icicles. The castles include frozen thrones, ice-tunnels, slides and LED lightings. This magical spectacle really must be seen to be believed. There are also fire shows by Insphyre Performances on Friday and Saturday evenings, and you can meet the Ice Princesses on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Purchase your tickets today!

Explore the River Valley Trails

If winter hiking or snowshoeing is on your to-do list, there are many kilometres of River Valley Trails to explore just outside your door at The Hendrix. If you get too chilly, there are warming huts along the way. These huts use passive solar heating, so they stay warm without electricity! The main windows of the huts face south so that they capture the heat and their concrete floors retain it in the thermal mass. The insulation prevents the heat from escaping. There are two warming huts in Hawrelak Park, and another at the Victoria Golf Course.

Winefest Edmonton

Not all winter fun happens outdoors. A world of wine awaits you this winter during Winefest Edmonton, from February 15th to 16th at the Edmonton Convention Centre, Hall D. The Convention Centre is less than a 10-minute taxi ride from The Hendrix. Remember to sample responsibly. Your admission ticket includes all-inclusive wine sampling, hors d’oeuvres and a souvenir wine glass.

The Vertica blog team hopes that these ideas help you push back against the winter blahs and let fun be the order of the day. For information on Vertica Rental Properties in Edmonton, including the comfort and incomparable amenities of The Hendrix (9733 111th Street NW), please visit our website.
