Holiday desserts we love
You’ve waited all year and now it’s finally here! The holiday season, AKA Baking Season, is a time to gather with those you love, reflect on what is truly important, and eat lots of great desserts. The Vertica Resident Services blog team wants to help out. Here are a few great recipes for holiday desserts we love. We hope they make your holiday season at The Shaughn as sweet as possible.
Peppermint Bark Popcorn
Peppermint Bark Popcorn brings the best of all snack worlds together, in one easy-to-make dessert/snack. It’s sweet, it’s savoury, it’s crunchy, it’s gooey, and the peppermint gives it a fresh winter feeling. Do yourself a flavour-favour, make the popcorn on the stove with a little coconut oil. It'll be so much tastier than microwaved popcorn. This holiday treat is also vegan and gluten-free!
Christmas Light Cupcakes
Everybody loves cupcakes. These Christmas Light Cupcakes are fun, festive and easy to make. Begin with a store-bought package of Devil’s Food Cake mix. Prepare it according to package directions, then make the frosting by beating heavy cream until peaks form. In a second bowl, beat together cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and salt. When it is fluffy, fold in the whipped heavy cream. If you don’t have a piping bag, transfer the mixture to a resealable plastic bag and snip off a corner. Frost the cupcakes generously! Using black cake decorating gel, swirl a black line around the frosting. Attach brightly coloured candies (such as M&Ms) to the black line, to imitate a string of lights.
Orange-Ginger Cookie Sandwiches
These Orange-Ginger Cookie Sandwiches are a perfect balance of tangy orange, warm ginger and sweet cookie. Cut them into whatever holiday shapes you like using cookie cutters. They're the perfect companion to a cup of warm holiday cheer. You may want to save a few to leave out for Santa.
